Eyes Wide Open, the American Friends Service Committee’s widely-acclaimed exhibit on the human cost of the Iraq War, features a pair of boots honoring each U.S. military casualty from California (about four hundred and fifty), a labyrinth of civilian shoes to memorialize the Iraqis killed in the conflict, and a display exploring the history, cost, and consequences of the war. Individuals, families, and friends are invited to honor and grieve for lost loved ones and strangers, near and far. The exhibit creates a sacred place for prayer, meditation, reflection, sorrow, and commitment to build a world of peace. Most of the time the vigil area is silent, with occasional quiet prayers, music, and conversation. To learn more about the exhibit, go to http://www.afsc.org/eyes.

Sponsored locally by Multifaith Voices for Peace and Justice, Peninsula Peace and Justice Center, American Muslim Voice, Jewish Voice for Peace - South Bay, Council of Churches of Santa Clara County, Mountain View Voices for Peace, Muslim Community Association of Santa Clara, Declaration of Peace - San Mateo County, Los Altos Voices for Peace, and Veterans for Peace / Veterans Speakers Alliance - Chapters 69 and 101.
