World Week for Animals in Laboratories (WWAIL) April 20-26

by In Defense of Animals
San Francisco WWAIL Actions Set for April 20-26; IDA Urges Whistleblowing at UCSF
World Week for Animals in Laboratories (WWAIL) (http://www.WWAIL.org) is taking place April 20-26, and IDA will be kicking it off in the Bay Area with leafleting at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Please join us to help expose the plight of animals used in cruel and deadly experiments!

Due to UCSF researchers' persistent disregard for research protocols, the U.S. Department of Agriculture filed formal charges against UCSF for 75 counts of federal Animal Welfare Act charges in 2004. UCSF settled the charges by agreeing to pay a $92,000 fine.

Of the many vivisectors at UCSF, researcher Steven Lisberger
(http://www.vivisectioninfo.org/lisberger.html) is perhaps the most infamous. He has been conducting cruel and invasive experiments on animals for more than 20 years, drilling holes in monkeys' heads and strapping them into restraining chairs for up to eight hours a day.

Please join IDA as we distribute literature to UCSF students and faculty about animal research performed at UCSF and alternatives to animal experiments, and encourage people of conscience to blow the whistle on animal cruelty taking place unseen inside UCSF labs.

IDA has served as the international coordinator for WWAIL since 1986, and has watched it grow from a single day of observance to a week-long effort that spurs scores of concerned people across the U.S. and worldwide to action. These UCSF events are part of a global effort to end the deliberate poisoning, mutilation, torture and murder of approximately 180 million animals a year who suffer in laboratories around the world.

When: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday April 21- 24, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
