Chico Impeachment Forum Begins Process

by How to Impeach Bush & Cheney
Last night in Chico, a panel discussion with the public indicated that impeachment processes should begin to remove GW Bush and Dick Cheney from their respective offices before the Jan 1st, 2009 deadline.
Follow-up article about Chico Impeachment forum from 6 p.m. Thursday 4/10 in the Chico City Council chambers.

"The forum is sponsored by the Peace Institute of Chico State University and the League of Women Voters of Butte County. The intention is to present diverse views on the question of impeaching President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

Among the scheduled speakers were three Chico State professors: Tom Imhoff, director of the Peace Institute; Bill Stewart, retired from the Political Science Department; and Anthony Graybosch of the Philosophy Department.

According to Marla Crites, a group called Chico Patriots for the Constitution plans to submit a resolution to the Chico City Council in June calling for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney.

She said the group has been collecting signatures on petitions, which are available at the Chico Peace and Justice Center."

The turnout was moderate, around 50-75 people in the public audience, though not all stayed throughout the entire meeting. Additional panelists were Stephen from the Chico Peace and Justice Center and Nicole from the CSU Democratic Student Union. Both expressed their views in favor of impeachement, citing reasons listed below..

What resulted was a spirited discussion between people who felt we should save our energies for the polls in 2008 and simply vote in a candidate that we liked and people who felt that impeachment was a crucial and needed step in removing two potential war criminals (Bush & Cheney) from office (even if one day before their last day in office) to send a message to the rest of the world that the public in the U.S. do not approve of the actions taken by Bush /Cheney with regards to Iraq, Katrina, etc.. and to show any incoming President in 2008 that they will not be given as long a leash as Bush and Cheney were alloted by the people. Either we live in a democracy or not, and if so then we need to show the world that we are indeed capable of holding our leadership responsible for their actions.

Most disgraceful was the comments made by CSU Prof. Graybosch who felt that the U.S. soldiers who would return from Iraq early would only get minimum wage jobs at Target and thus were better off staying in Iraq and getting their arms and legs blown off so that GW bush and Cheney could pass their petroluem privatization law in Iraq and celebrate their record profits with petroluem corporate CEOs. His utter disregard for the welfare and the safety and health of the Iraqi civilians themselves was equally appalling, and he certainly did not show the most philosophical nature that Chico state has to offer. To have wrong ideas and facts is one thing, thought to so flippantly dimiss the suffering of the Iraqi people is nothing less than disrespect..

A majority of the public there in attendance expressed the need to begin some sort of impeachment process on a local level modeled after similar measures passed in Vermont and other regions that would result in the arrest and detention of Bush and Cheney by local authorities if they ever set foot in that specific town. If this happens throughout the U.S. in other communities, it will be impossible for bush and Cheney to travel throughout the U.S. as they will be subject to arrest in any town..

Here's some background on the Brattleboro, Vermont Impeachment Resolution;

"Brattleboro, Vermont passes indictment of Bush and Cheney"

"To be arrested in Brattleboro "if they are not duly impeached"

Brattleboro Town Clerk Annette Cappy stands in her office in holding a sample ballot

The courageous people of Brattleboro, Vermont have taken the lead! Frustrated that elected officials have refused to introduce articles of impeachment in defiance of their constituents' demands, the people of Brattelboro voted to direct town officials to draw up indictment papers against George Bush and Dick Cheney for violating their oath of office.

The Brattleboro vote took place during the Tuesday's Vermont primary election. Bush supporters launched a major campaign to discredit the referendum resolution and the organizers. Yet the resolution passed by a vote of 2012 in favor to 1795 against.

"Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution, and publish said indictments for consideration by other authorities and shall it be the law of the Town of Brattleboro that the Brattleboro Police, pursuant to the above-mentioned indictments, arrest and detain George Bush and Richard Cheney in Brattleboro if they are not duly impeached, and prosecute or extradite them to other authorities that may reasonably contend to prosecute them?" The people of Brattleboro answered, "yes!"

The indictment means that Bush and Cheney can be arrested for criminal acts should they ever enter Brattleboro. The indictment would go into effect after Bush and Cheney leave office.

The Brattleboro resolution is becoming a powerful organizing model for cities and towns around the country. The impeachment movement has sunk deep roots throughout this country. The people of the United States are demanding not only that the Constitution be restored, but that the President, Vice President and other officials be held accountable for committing high crimes and misdemeanors."
