SFIE Teachers Strike For Justice
On Monday, March 17, 2008, teachers went on strike at San Francisco Institute of English (3301 Balboa, corner of 34th Avenue in SF's Outer Richmond District) . Their demands include the re-institution of a healthcare plan which was lost in 2004, a 30%wage increase to cover no wage increases or cost of living adjustments in over 12 years. Supporting students had their own support rally with statements in Thai, Spanish, Chinese and Korean. Labor On the Job interviews teachers, students and supporters who see this fight as a fight for all teachers and their students.

Hundreds of San Francisco teachers, union leaders from throughout the state and students and parents joined together to protest the massive budget cuts facing California teachers. Also joining the rally were the Angry Tired Teachers Band ATT from Hayward, California who sang out in solidarity with the San Francisco teachers. Angry parents, students and education supporters demanded that California must provide proper funding for education and the California as one of the richest states in the world can afford to have a education system that is properly funded.
