The ACLU of Northern California works on a number of civil liberties issues, from marriage equality to reproductive rights, from criminal justice to spying and surveillance.

If you're looking for a way to get more involved with the ACLU on a grassroots level, join us on March 27 at 6:00. This is a great opportunity to learn how to lobby, meet other activists, and connect with the ACLU's work on key civil liberties issues.

We will be focusing on legislation to prevent housing and language discrimination against victims of domestic violence.

LEARN about important legislation to protect the civil liberties of victims of acts of domestic violence and how you can lobby your legislators on behalf of this legislation.

CONNECT with experts and other activists who care about protecting the civil liberties of women.

TAKE ACTION to become an expert on key legislation and find out about opportunities to lobby your legislators to support the legislation.

Food, drink, and activism opportunities provided.

We will be focusing on two pieces of legislation:
AB 2052 (Lieu): Allows victims of acts of domestic violence to terminate their lease/rental agreement early to move away from an abuser.
SB 1523 (Kuehl): Allows better access to the justice system for victims of acts of domestic violence with limited English proficiency.

Monthly Volunteer Activist Nights will be held on the following Thursdays in 2008: April 24, May 22, June 26, July 24, Aug. 28, Sept. 25, Oct. 23, and Nov. 20.
