Justice for Joshua Herrera

24 year old Joshua Herrera has been held for four years in a San Jose jail after his 2004 conviction on an accessory to home invasion robbery charge. Josh had no prior record, he did no violence to anyone, and never even got out of the car he was driving. His friend's mom was trying to avoid her abusive boyfriend so Josh gave his friends a ride to their home to pick up their mom's stuff. Check the rest of the articles on the site for more info. Josh's sentencing will be March 20th and due to a "gang enhancement" he is facing 25-life. Please send letters to the Santa Clara County D.A.'s office who will decide what sentence to ask the Judge for. Too many youth of color and poor people are being locked up to make cities "safer" by "tough-on-crime" politicians pandering to racist fears among whites and the greed of wannabe rich people of color (whose kids, ironically, can get snatched up and racially profiled by cops just as easy as poorer kids of color). And all the while the rich and the aspiring rich demand 10% cuts per year to all public education and rehabilitation program budgets so they can save money on taxes. Stopping the railroading of Josh on gang enhancement is just a step in the direction of fairness, and the movement for justice and accountability looks like it is growing.
