Animal Activist Training Workshop
The Animal Activist Training workshop takes an in-depth look at issues affecting farmed animals in California and the country. We provide tools and tips on ways for individuals to be proactive in helping farmed animals. Topics will include: legislation, letters to editors, leafletting, demonstrations, lifestyle choices, and other ways for individuals to create positive change.
Animal Place, a 60-acre sanctuary and education center, will hold a special animal activist training class on Saturday, March 15. The workshop will integrate informative sessions on farmed animals with proactive models people can use to help advance the interests of these animals.
Participants will learn about the natural behaviors and history of commonly farmed animals and gain important knowledge of how industrial agribusiness affects the animals, the planet, and human health. We’ll also address such activist tactics as leafleting, letter writing, engaging in demonstrations, lobbying, promoting ethical eating, doing volunteer work, and much more.
“Most people think turkeys are dumb, pigs are dirty, or that cows don’t have feelings,” says Marji Beach, Animal Place’s program coordinator. “This class will show how fascinating these animals really are and that they lead intricate, emotional lives. Moreover, it will clearly guide people through the steps they can take to help reduce animal suffering.”
Join us for an interactive and informative training session integrating fascinating facts about farmed animals and tools on how you can help! A tour of the sanctuary is included.

Animal Place is a nonprofit sanctuary for abused and discarded farmed animals located in Vacaville, California. Since 1989, Animal Place has been taking in animals who have been abused or neglected and have no place else to go. Animals rescued from auctions and stockyards and animals used in research also make up the many animals who share 60 acres of forest, meadow, pasture, hills and a small lake, peacefully living out the remainder of their lives. In addition to providing the day-to-day care of animals, Animal Place is an advocacy organization offering farm tours, volunteer training and outreach activities. More information on the sanctuary can be found online at http://www.animalplace.org.
