Oak Grove Tree Sit was attacked, help resupply

After early morning attack by "arborists" the tree sit needs support.

Early this morning police and arborists descended on the grove. Arborists climbed into the grove, cut many of the ropes that connect the different tree sits and took down one sit. No one was arrested. The trees need support. Come to an emergency resupply action tomorrow (Feb. 20) at 4:30 PM. Please bring food and water if you can (or climbing gear) but mostly bring yourself. The UC police like to arrest people for giving food to the tree sitters but have so far not messed with us when we are in large groups.

Also every Sunday at 2:00 is a weekly resupply led by the grandmothers. Please attend if you can. Here are photos of the re-supply on February 10.

Today at 6 am, UC Police ascended into the oak grove trees and cut
down many food and water containers along with several sleeping
platforms, a lot of climbing ropes, tarps, and waste buckets.
Although UC Police did not directly assault any tree-sitters this
morning, the action represents UC Police's attempt to tighten the
noose, cut off tree-sitters from community member support and
supplies. It also is an attempt to intimidate both the tree-sitters
and supporters, and a threat to the safety of the tree-sitters.

In fact, one of the ropes cut by the climber hired by UC cops was
left hanging, appearing to still be attached. A sitter used the rope
after the climber left to move to a different location, unaware that
the other end was not secured. The only thing that prevented a
potentially fatal fall (it was a high rope) was the fact that the
rope snagged on a water jug when weight was put on it. Leaving cut
ropes dangling and appearing to be attached creates a seriously
dangerous situation. As the police were this reckless with their
actions and also cut a waste bucket, letting it fall and splash open
on the ground, they had the audacity to tell the media that their
actions were done in the interest of "safety and sanitary concerns".
The community should come and see for themselves!

In response, the Berkeley Grandmothers for the Oaks issued a special
invitation:
"Please join us for a special resupply effort - to help replace what
the tree-sitters lost - tomorrow (Wed) at 4:30 pm. We hope to see you
there. Let's help the tree-sitters live comfortably, peacefully, and
safely in the trees."
People can bring food, large water containers with loops to attach
to carbiners, ropes and tarps. Materials should be in secure bags
with handles.

Judge Miller is expected to rule on the lawsuit to protect the grove
sometime in late March or April.

§UCSC- tree service

some Williams Tree Service trucks glided by at the entrance of the UC Santa Cruz campus at 9am, (which became known when some angry people went to slash their tires for dismantling the ground camp at the Santa Cruz LRDP protest). But I don't think they're doing anything at the parking lot where those people are staying in the trees where a building is planned. They are assembled 1/3 mile away at the region between the administration building and art building, and seem to be pruning some broken trees.
