The Justice for Filipino American Veterans(JFAV) pays tribute to Rep. Tom Lantos of California who passed away.
JFAV learned that Lantos, 80, passed away at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center in suburban Maryland.
Lantos, a Democrat who chaired the House Foreign Affairs Committee, disclosed last month that he had been diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus. He has supported the veterans equity bill .

Los Angeles – The Justice for Filipino American Veterans(JFAV) pays tribute to Rep. Tom Lantos of California who passed away.
JFAV learned that Lantos, 80, passed away at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center in suburban Maryland.
Lantos, a Democrat who chaired the House Foreign Affairs Committee, disclosed last month that he had been diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus. He has supported the veterans equity bill .
He served his constituency which has large Filipino population at Northern California district, which takes in the southwest portion of San Francisco and suburbs to the south including Lantos' home of San Mateo.
Lantos had assumed his committee chairmanship just a year earlier, when Democrats retook control of Congress. He conducted house hearings on human rights violations in the Philippines last year.
In the senate and house hearings, the US Congress found the Philippine government responsible for the spate of political killings in the Philippines and tied US military aid to the human rights situation in the country.
Lantos, who was elected to the House in 1980, founded the Congressional Human Rights Caucus in 1983. In October 2007, as Foreign Affairs chairman, Lantos defied administration opposition by moving through his committee a measure that would have recognized the World War I-era killings of Armenians as a genocide, something strongly opposed by Turkey. The bill has not passed the House.
JFAV offers the sincerest condolence with Lantos’ family and friend and considered him a true friend and an ally of the Filipino people.

SHAME ON THE ABOVE WRITER AND BARBARA LEE FOR PRAISING ZIONIST WARMONGER TOM LANTOS. This writer also comes from a Holocaust family and is outraged that anyone would praise that proud murderer of the Palestinians, Tom Lantos. This is the same warmonger that sponsored a resolution to murder the people of Iraq. His pretense of concern for human rights was just that. Tom Lantos was viciously and utterly reactionary, and a Democrat, just like all Democratic and Republican politicians, all proud suppoters of the torture and murder of Palestinians and theft of Palestinian land for that is what it means to be 100% pro-Israel, which they all are. In addition to the litmus test issue of the Palestinians, there is the litmus test issue of Mumia Abu-Jamal. Lantos, like Pelosi, and most Democrats and Republicans, voted for the resolution that essentially supported the murder of Mumia Abu-Jamal with its condemnation of the city of St. Denis, France which renamed a street after Mumia. This writer just heard the Feb 11, 2008 6 p.m. news on KPFA, 94.1 FM, which obituary on Lantos was filled with the stinking praise of this fascist, including by Barbara Lee, with only a tiny snippet of criticism allowed at the end by someone who opposed Lantos' despicable pro-Israel and anti-Palestinian record. THE SUPPORT BY TOM LANTOS OF TORTURE AND MURDER OF THE PALESTINIANS AND THE THEFT OF PALESTINIAN LAND IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY AND SHOULD HAVE CONSTITUTED THE ENTIRE OBITUARY ON KPFA.
