Urgent Action Alert: Help Stop the Assault on the American River Parkway!
I urge everybody concerned about the future of the American River Parkway to support this urgent action alert from Warren Truitt, president of Save the American River Association (SARA). SARA is opposing the Markis/Lien "McMansions" project because this intrusive development will set a very bad precedent for planning decisions on the American River Parkway. Please come to the County Board of Supervisors Chambers at 700 H Street in Sacramento on Wednesday, February 13 at 11:30 a.m. to protect the American River and Parkway from trophy houses and other man-made intrusions. Also please email your supervisors through http://www.McMansions.org by Monday, February 11.
SAVE THE AMERICAN RIVER ASSOCIATION (SARA)
has paid a $5,000 fee -- money donated to the Parkway Defense Fund by the Sacramento community -- to appeal to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, an action by the County Planning Commission granting the Markis/Lien houses a 35-foot setback on the river bluff adjacent to the Parkway. The Zoning Code recommends a 70-foot setback in this area.
DATE: WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13th AT 11:30 A.M. in the Board of Supervisor’s Chambers, 700 H Street. (The Markis/Lien project).
This precedent-setting decision will culminate a five-year campaign by SARA to encourage the County to use its own planning tools, the American River Parkway Plan and the Parkway Zoning Code, to protect the American River and Parkway from man-made intrusions.
SARA and the Parkway need the support of the community in this matter:
LETTERS and E-MAILS: Go to: http://www.McMansions.org for information, including each supervisor's e-mail address plus letter and e-mail writing assistance. Letters and e-mails should be sent to all 5 supervisors to arrive at the their offices on Monday, February 11th. Refer to the Markis Use Permit in your subject line. Sign with name, address & zip code.
QUESTIONS AND ASSISTANCE: E-mail: NoMcMansions [at] aol.com
ON FEBRUARY 13th: Attend the hearing. Stop at the SARA Rally Table and join us for a treat. Fill out a speaker slip so the Supervisors know you're there – supporting SARA. No need to speak.
While property owners adjacent to the American River and Parkway continue to benefit from the Parkway’s significant amenities -- acquired and maintained by bonds and taxes respectively, Sacramento County residents experience an increasing erosion of their investment by the granting of exceptions, variances and use permits. The Markis/Lien project is only one of a long list of intrusive developments that are rapidly diminishing a priceless legacy.
Please forward this email alert: to your friends who care about and use the Parkway; to supporters who work downtown, and; to Parkway stakeholders who can get downtown in the middle of the day to show their support. Thank you,
Warren
