Hamas' leader tells an Italian magazine Israeli Schalit captured in 2006 is well and regrets the raids on Gaza hurts prisoner swap chances.
"Gilad Schalit is alive. He is well and he is also being treated with kid gloves,'' Khaled Mashaal was quoted as saying about Schalit, a young corporal, who was seized June 25, 2006, by Hamas armed wing and the Palestinian Resistance Committees.
"Thanks to Egypt's mediation we had already decided the number of prisoners and the place of the exchange. We were missing the names,'' Panorama quoted him as saying. "But we will never do exchanges with those whose hands are stained with our blood.''
Palestinian resistance groups have demanded the release of female Palestinian detainees, children, the sick, and leaders of the Palestinian factions in return for Schalit's release.
