Boiler collaspes and kills one worker and injures two at PG&E closed power plant.

by Francisco Da Costa
The shut down Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) plant situated at 1000 Evans Street reported two injured and one killed. The workers were part of the deconstruction of the now shut down PG&E - the result of the negotiations with the Stake Holders and some community activists. CityBuild has been involved in training youth and putting them to work. We have NOT got the details - but I hope the fatality has nothing to do with CityBuild and those involved in placing youth at this site. Such jobs are dangerous and no long term training has been given to the youth that are trained by CityBuild and work at this PG&E plant that is no longer in operation.
The negotiations at the Stake Holders meeting led to the shut down of the Hunters Point Power Plant - two years ago.

It has been some years now that after the total shut down of the toxic spewing old power plant - that Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) has been involved with the deconstruction of this old power plant.

CityBuild a training program from the Mayor's Office has been involved in placing some youth at this job site. I hope the worker killed had nothing to do with CityBuild.

The report on site stated that one person was killed and two injured.

When I was there attempts were being made to remove a body - and so reporters and others NOT involved in the rescue mission - were not allowed near the site of the incident.

The PG&E incident site was surrounded by the San Francisco Fire Department - the front line agency involved in the rescue of those workers hurt and the one killed.

CityBuild should be fore-warned NOT to place any youth in such jobs. I know that very minimal training is given and I am waiting to hear detail reports - about this incident.

I went to the site because I know some youth that know me that work on this site. So far none of them has been hurt - but you never know - since I did not physically see them one at a time.
