Intertribal Friendship House to Host Community Forum on Gaming Propositions 94-97

Tribal Leaders and Community Members Invited to Discuss Proposition Initiatives and Potential Impact of on Tribal Sovereignty
OAKLAND, CA - The Intertribal Friendship House (IFH), which is recognized as the oldest Urban Native American Community Center in the nation, will host a panel discussion and community forum Wednesday January 30, 2008 at 6:30 P.M. The panel discussion and community forum will focus on the upcoming gaming proposition initiatives 94 - 97 and their potential impact on tribal sovereignty. Intertribal Friendship House invites tribal leaders and members, community organizations and members, as well as union members to participate in the forum in an effort to provide their respective and unique perspectives on the propositions that will be voted on in the upcoming February 5th ballot legislation.

The Intertribal Friendship House has served as the meeting place and organizing center for American Indian activism since the 1960s and '70s including the occupation of Alcatraz, the initiation of The Longest Walk, and the creation of the AIM for freedom Survival School, among many other events and actions that had far-reaching effects nationally, many of which continue today.

The forum is free and open to the public and will begin with a community spaghetti dinner starting at 6:30 P.M. Intertribal Friendship House is requesting a $6 donation per plate and all proceeds will benefit IFH. This forum is intended for community informational purposes and educational awareness. Intertribal Friendship House is committed to taking a neutral stance in not endorsing either side of the propositions before the forum.
