Healthcare Reform 2008: Progress, Confusion, or Betrayal?
Does the current proposed statewide healthcare reform compromise legislation (negotiated by the Governor and the California Democratic legislature leadership) guarantee affordable, accessible, high-quality health care for all Californians--or more profits for the insurance industry? Why do front-running Democratic presidential candidates Clinton, Obama, and Edwards refuse to remove the wasteful health insurance industry from their proposals? Attend a free public forum to discuss these issues and learn more. Speakers: Sara Rogers, Legislative Assistant to State Senator Sheila Keuehl, author of SB 840, California's single payer universal healthcare legislation; Tim Paulson, Executive Director of the the San Francisco Labor Council; Jodi Reid, Executive Director of the California Alliance for Retired Persons; Renu Tipireneni, UCSF Medical Student & member of the American Medical Student Association; Michael Lyon, Health Committee Co-chair of the San Francisco Gray Panthers; and Don Bechler, Chair, California Universal Healthcare organizing Project. Sponsored by the California Universal Health Care Organizing Project. 3 p.m. free, 474 Valencia (at 16th Street), San Francisco, 415-695-7891, dbechler [at] value.net, , http://www.singlepayernow.net
