Rep. Tom Supports Tribal Day at the Arizona Capitol
STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Rep. Albert Tom, D-Chambers, is looking forward to participating in the 13th annual Indian Nations and Tribes Legislation Day at the Arizona Capitol on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
"Making sure the Indian and Native American Nations located in Arizona have strong representation at the state legislature is very important to me," Rep. Tom said.
"Tribal Day is a very important event that showcases the achievements and future needs of Native American tribes. Also, it is an opportunity for lawmakers and tribal leaders to build long-lasting relationships," Rep. Tom said.
"I always welcome meeting with tribal members. I am always available in my office during the legislative session and the interim," Rep. Tom said.
Rep. Tom is sponsoring several pieces of legislation that will affect tribal communities:
· House Bill 2025 will appropriate $200,000 for a Navajo Sweetwater multi-purpose center and tract development
· House Bill 2027 will appropriate $900,000 to the Navajo Nation for a mutli-purpose building serving Shonto and the surrounding communities to provide health care, veterans' services, postal services, and other community services
· House Bill 2028 will appropriate $50,000 for a Navajo Tsaile/Wheatfields chapter senior citizen complex
· House Bill 2247 will move the annual Indian Nations and Tribes Legislation Day from the second week of session to the third week
