OADC Weekly Arrest Report #1: 12/23/2007-12/29/2007
Two Arrested Day Before Christmas
WHAT: This is the first of soon to be weekly press releases from the
Oaks Arrestees Defense Committee (OADC), detailing arrest activity
from UC Berkeley's Memorial Oak Grove for the week.
On Monday, December 24, 2007 (the day before Christmas) two
individuals were arrested at UC Berkeley's memorial Oak Grove accused
of having occupied the trees. They were taken to Santa Rita Jail
where one was originally held on over $50,000 bail and the other on
over $20,000 bail until their first court date when bails were reduced
to over $20,000 and $5,000 respectively. They were released on their
own recognizance on Friday, December 28. Both are currently charged
with violating a court order and providing false information and one
is charged with battery as well.
This is just one instance of continuing harassment by the University
of California Police Department, Berkeley at Memorial Oak Grove.
Since the beginning of the tree-sit there have been numerous cases of
false arrest and imprisonment, illegal search and seizure, falsified
police reports, trumped up charges, and even violence by police
against tree-sitters and their supporters. The purpose of these
reports is to detail these continuing assaults on the civil liberties
of nonviolent protestors and their supporters.
WHEN: Monday, December 24, 2007, Friday December 29, 2007.
WHO: Two accused tree-sitters arrested on Monday, December 24, 2007
and released on Friday, December 29, 2007.
The Oaks Arrestees Defense Committee was founded to provide legal,
financial and public support for anyone arrested or harassed due to
his or her involvement with the protest at the Memorial Oak Grove.

The sports/automobile/oil/construction/security industry greed is prevalent in many parts of the world, including University of California at Berkeley, where they spent $100,000+ building a double chain-link fence around the Oak tree grove (http://saveoaks.com) that is a community gathering place, slated to be destroyed by the sports/automobile/oil/construction/security greedy 'gangsters', to enslave more people to unsustainable centralized sports/entertainment, further distracting them from holding the war criminals in government and multinational corporations accountable for the rape and pillage of our country and others for their resources. Greedy people are sick and need reeducation and deprogramming from years of brainwashing.
Cops, governments and corporations that repress public arts and assembly are sick. End capitalism's and fascism's exploitation of the public commons.
In the global climate crisis, planting trees is a noble sport. High awards for the ones that plant the most trees that survive. Stop dribbling rubber on asphalt and astroturf. Don't be puppets of the brainwashing system.
