Ujamaa Celebration: Cooperative Black Agribusiness

The vibration frequency from the sounds of African Drums echoed throughout the California State Capitol, a clear signal to a beginning of the Umoja Celebration of Kwanzaa, our California Grown Holiday. Ministers for several aspects of our one creator gave a unification blessing for our “first fruit harvest unity celebration” and desire for greater unity in 2008.

Theuti, Terry Guilford, Sr. from Wo’se Community Church, called on our collective historical ancestors, through libation, to come and be with us in spirit to join in the blessing of this day of unity.

California Assemblymember Dave Jones co-sponsored the event in support of the work of our California Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association and offered a member resolution to help celebrate the occasion of the 9th Annual, California Kwanzaa Ag Expo.

Several California State legislators are very interested in the 2007 Farm Bill Legislation, 2007 Census of Agriculture and potential new statewide opportunities to study, create policy and restore California Black Agribusiness to help job creation, green technology and address epidemic diet related health outcomes by helping to provide a locally grown diet of fruit and vegetables.

Celebrating Kwanzaa 365 is our answer... and together we can bring, 'best practices' to the Historic District of Oak Park as a beginning to expand statewide with positive outcomes.

Throughout the day, community members and visitors flowed through Room 125 of our California State Capitol to celebrate Kwanzaa. International holiday visitors from the Caribbean, European Union and African Union joined U.S. visitors from Florida, NY, North Carolina and Minnesota whom all enjoyed and participated in our contribution to the global celebration of Kwanzaa.
