Iraq 'torture chamber' discovered

by Al Jazeera (reposted)
Friday, December 21, 2007 : Nine mass graves are also found near detention facilities in Diyala province.
The discovery came as at least 36 people died on Thursday in incidents including a suicide attack and clashes between suspected al-Qaeda fighters and security forces in the province, the US military said.

The discovery, near the town of Muqdadiyah, was made during the military's December 8-11 Operation Iron Reeper, but was only announced on Thursday.

The torture chamber was housed in an area containing three detention facilities, the military said.

"It had chains on the walls and ceilings, a bed still hooked up to an electrical system and several blood-stained items," a statement said.
