Tuesday, December 18, 2007 : Five overnight attacks leave at least 11 dead in the Palestinian territories.

Islamic Jihad fighters surrounded Harazeen's bombed car, promising to exact revenge [EPA]

A series of Israeli military raids in the Palestinian territories has killed a Hamas man and at least 10 members of Islamic Jihad, including the Gaza chief of its armed wing. Three overnight air strikes in the Gaza Strip killed nine fighters from the group, while an Israeli military operation in the West Bank left another dead.

Later on Tuesday morning, an Israeli air strike in the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis killed one of Hamas's security forces. The first strike in Gaza City late on Monday killed Majed al-Harazeen, commander of Al-Quds Brigades, a man wanted by Israel for the past nine years.

Tuesday, December 18, 2007 : Israeli attacks on Gaza and the West Bank kill 13 Palestinian militants from Islamic Jihad and Hamas.

Israel accused Majed Harazin of leading rocket and mortar attacks against its territory. Reports say he is the most senior militant to be killed in a year.

The attack on his car killed an Islamic Jihad associate, while three more raids killed at least 10 other militants.

Israel's deputy defence minister said he was "very pleased" with the results.
