Amazing Grace, 2007 Farm Bill Debate: Legacy of the Trans~Atlantic Slave Trade

by Khubaka, Michael Harris
The World Trade Organization will watch closely today's Congressional Hearings on the Ongoing Legacy of the Trans~Atlantic Slave Trade. U.S. Senate and House Conference Committee on the 2007 Farm Bill will reflect on the 1862 creation of the United States Department of Agriculture, the people's department. President Lincoln gave his life, establishing a way forward, while preserving agribusiness without enslavement, today our nation begins an adult conversation on the ongoing impact of the Trans~Atlantic Slave Trade.

Washington, D.C. ~ Rev. John Newton wrote the "Ole Regular Baptist tune" while reflecting upon his participation in kidnapping children, rape, murder, and untold horrors in the Trans~Atlantic Slave Trade.

U.S. History will reflect on today's Congressional Hearings as a banner moment in a long journey towards justice. House Judiciary Chairman, Honorable Michigan Congressman John Conyers, has complete understanding of the significance of this day.

Several years ago in a conversation with elders of Southern Sudan, the Dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, calmly and quietly spoke of this day, what a blessing.

Official U.S. Government quantitative and qualitative analysis of the ongoing impact of the trade and commerce of human beings will finally see the dawning of a new day towards a positive resolution that honors the best of our traditions.

I can hear Rev. Newton praying for the souls of whom his hands attempted to destroy, some of us can still feel that pain and some of us have embraced the grace that only comes from within, given by a hidden source of creation.

Senator Harkin and Congressman Peterson will build upon our agricultural global trade and commerce policy, after hearing first hand, the official record of "previous condition of servitude."

The Dean of the Congressional Black Caucus has honored the best of our American Traditions, "to form a more perfect union" and our nation will be served well.

Our ancestors and elders prayers have been answered today as the heavens sings,

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That sav’d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev’d;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believ’d!

Thro’ many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promis’d good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who call’d me here below,
Will be forever mine.
