by Ruth Robertson/Justin Miel (info [at] raginggrannies.com)
Raging Grannies Action League & MoveOn members delivered a NO ATTACK ON IRAN petition with more than 1,700 signatures
to Congresswoman Anna Eshoo as part of an anti-war rally on Dec 13 2007. They took the opportunity to thank rally guest
Councilwoman Judy Kleinberg for the City's anti-war resolution of Dec 10.

Members of the Raging Grannies Action League thanked the Palo Alto City Council, and in particular council members Ladoris Cordell, Peter Drekmeier, and Judy Kleinberg, who authored a Resolution opposing United States preemptive military intervention in Iran.

This City Council resolution urges that the United States government refrain from any preemptive action in dealing with any unconfirmed threat of military force by Iran, and further urges that it use all peaceful means possible to arrive at a diplomatic resolution of any confirmed threat that may jeopardize lives and property in Iran or elsewhere.
The council opposed the military campaign in Iraq in a similar resolution in 2003.
Palo Alto joins many other local governments across the United States in formally adopting anti-war resolutions.

Council Member Judy Kleinberg addressed an anti-war crowd at our MoveOn/Raging Granny sponsored demonstration on Dec 13. She reiterated as she did so eloquently at Monday's council meeting that war adversely affects us here in Palo Alto in terms of money that could have gone to our local public projects, but also in much larger terms as we watch the untold suffering in the Middle East and in US military families who have lost loved ones.

The resolution passed 6-3. Many Iranian-Americans testified at the Council meeting of December 10, waiting more than three hours to do so. Raging Grannies Action League members Barbara Baxter-Berman also spoke to the gathered council members on behalf of a YES vote for the resolution. 7 Grannies came to the Council Meeting in Granny wear. Congratulations and hugs all around followed the exciting vote. (this photo only, taken by a random Granny fan)

§Raging Grannies Rename Lytton Plaza

Palo Alto's Historic Lytton Plaza is facing a redesign at the behest of downtown business owners/investors. The Grannies renamed the plaza "People's Plaza" for the day and will be reviewing official plans for the new face of the Plaza. We want to make sure it will remain People-Friendly and not just "Shopper-Friendly"
