PeaceTalks: The Free Gaza Movement; setting sail to Gaza in May 2008
George Cadman of Free Radio Santa Cruz 101.1 FM interviewed Dr. Paul Larudee, co-founder of the Free Gaza Movement, on 12-4-07 about plans to set sail from Cyprus to Gaza in May of 2008.
Listen now:
The Free Gaza Movement's mission is to break the siege of Gaza. They want to raise international awareness about the prison-like closure of the Gaza Strip and pressure the international community to review its sanctions policy and end its support for continued Israeli occupation. They want to uphold Palestine's right to welcome internationals as visitors, human rights observers, humanitarian aid workers, journalists, or otherwise.
Dr. Paul Larudee is Co-Founder of the Free Gaza Movement. He is a former Ford Foundation supervisor in Lebanon, a Fulbright-Hays lecturer to Lebanon, and a former contracted US govt. advisor to Saudi Arabia. He participates in Palestinian nonviolent resistance with the International Solidarity Movement.

10,000 fliers announcing electricity cuts were hung last night in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem
Darkening Gaza - Another Step Of A dark State
Last night, Tuesday, (4.12) groups of activists hung about ten thousand fliers announcing electricity cuts on doors of private homes and notice boards in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem. These fliers were written as a response to the government decision, supported by the high court, to reduce the gas and petrol to the Gaza Strip, and in the future also reduce the electricity.
These steps of damaging without distinction civilians in the Gaza Strip seem to us cruel and criminal. There is no legitimization for collective punishment of civilians. These are steps that even the army admitted have no chance of stopping the kassam shootings on Sderot, and that it is clear to all that their target is simply revenge. The notice illustrates how cynical the claim is that abuse of Gaza residents will contribute to the security of Israeli citizens. If the Israeli citizen doesn't have the ability to stop his government from committing war crimes in the occupied territories, all the more so that a resident of besieged Gaza cannot cause the firing of kassams to stop.
Through this action we are interested in attempting to strengthen awareness of Israeli citizens to the arbitrariness of these aggressive steps and to try and create identification with the distress of the Strip's residents.

Israel just committed to an independent palestine by 2008.
The timing of this is strange
Why not fundraise for direct services to the poor and hungry, rather than a ferry service to Europe?
