Juan kind of lost his temper, and even though it wasn't very good tactically, it showed his humanity. Dobbs is pretty good with his rhetoric; that's why he is one of the managing editors of the corporate propaganda machine. The fact that the means of production belong to everyone, and the fact that the US was established through the genocide of the native Americans disqualifies the US government or its capitalist masters from denying entry to immigrants. That point never came up because it would alienate a large part of the brainwashed American public and because that would have been the end of the discussion, and Amy and Juan would have had little effect in undermining the status quo. By aiming a little lower and accepting some elite assumptions about the legitimacy of terms such as "legal" and "illegal" Amy and Juan were able to accomplish more. An interview is not really a debate, so they knew Dobbs would have more time to speak, Different tactics and strategies apply.

I was totally surprised by the confrontation between Amy Goodman Juan Gonzalez team against Lou Dobbs.
I thought the real question about illegal immigration would be addressed. -

What caused it? Did it evolve in a natural economic way or was it driven by powerful forces?
Who says we have to compete like this in a global arena?

The U.S. Federal Government sponsored the moving of factories to Mexico starting in 1956. It was supposed to be just a temporary program to help jump start the Mexican economy while supplying the American Consumer with cheaper goods. It never ended. It first evolved into the Maquiladora factory program using impoverished Mexican workers to supply cheaper goods to America. By 1992, there were more than 2,000 factories moved to Mexico prior to the passing of the NAFTA Free Trade agreements. After President Clinton and a Democrat controlled Congress passed NAFTA, the number of factories moved to Mexico rapidly doubled to more than 4,000. Soon after that, President Clinton had to rush billions of dollars to Mexico to save the peso.

In the end, an impoverished working class in Mexico and a working poor class in the USA was created. Many workers and businesses in the USA lost everything. Personal and business banrkrupticies broke records for years.

President Bush says the Mexican workers come to America to do jobs Americans will not do. He never mentions anything about what happen and why NAFTA did not work. Mexico reports a low unemployment rate just like the U.S. does. Apparently, there are jobs in Mexico , Mexicans will not take. Now a growing number of factories are on the move again to places like China where workers will work for pennies a day. This is the real story behing illegal immigration and fighting about the nationality of the immigrants will not get anything resolved.
We need to go deep into the causes and effects and keep asking who said we had to compete like this in a global economic arena like gladiators ?
