Protest at Fort Huachuca

by Cindy Whitman-Bradley
On Sunday, November 18, 2007, three hundred activists gathered outside the gates of Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, where all Army interrogators are trained, to protest torture, extraordinary rendition, and other US human rights abuses. Three protesters, Betsy Lamb, Mary Burton Riseley, and Jerry Zawada were arrested for entering the base without permission.

Thanks you, Cindy, for putting these great photos up. And thanks to the three who crossed the line! They were attempting to continue the discussion that had started on the previous Thursday(Nov.15,2007) when they met with four army colonials at Fort Huachuca, by appointment. During that discussion Fr. Jerry Zawada asked the colonials "Why are you fighting this war?" The answer was, "We are following the orders of our superiors"

cindy,

thanks for documenting this crucially important protest movement in its early stages. you and the rest of the 300 protestors in the desert prove the empire can't run and it can't hide -- the people will dog it everywhere it goes, right into its darkest laboratories of death and pain, like huachuca.

hasta la victoria siempre!
roger

p.s. i wonder if people know that fort huachuca is also the site where they train the people who run the satelite controlled drones that fly over iraq and afghanistan and drop bombs on people. it's just like they're playing video games, but the kills are all too real.
