Feature: The World No Wall Can Stop

A half hour video documenting struggles in the San Diego border region and their connection to broader resistance movements was presented at the Festival de la Otra, which was organized by La Otra San Diego and held on September 22 at the World Beat Center and Centro Cultural de la Raza.

The video, compiled by community groups and independent videographers, covers Subcommandante Marcos' visit to Tijuana in October 2006 as part of the Zapatista's Other Campaign (1 | 2), solidarity with the indigenous Cucapa fishing Camp in spring, 2007, the Oaxaca Solidarity Camp established outside the San Diego Mexican Consulate last November after then-president Vicente Fox ordered federal troops to crush the people's movement against the corrupt governor of Oaxaca, Ulises Ruiz, San Diego's Reclaim the Streets action in April (1 | 2), documentation of border patrol harassment and profiling of trolley riders, and I.C.E. raids , and struggles in communities in autonomous Zapatista territory described at the Second Encounter of the Zapatista Peoples with the Peoples of the World.

Organizations that participated in producing the video or provided footage include American Friends Service Committee, Raza Rights Coalition, Colectivo Zapatista San Diego, S.C.A.R. Media Collective, La Otra San Diego, and San Diego Indymedia.
