Afghan 'Kite Runner' Actors Say They Were Misled
Saturday, November 17, 2007 : Concern is growing about the safety of four Afghan child stars of The Kite Runner. The film, based on the Khaled Hosseini novel, is due for release next month, and the children have been told to get ready to travel to California. Two of them say they no longer walk to school by themselves because of incidents of harassment.
But only one boy's family wants Paramount to move them out of Afghanistan permanently. Ahmad Khan Mahmidzada portrays the rape victim in the movie's most controversial scene.
Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson interviewed three of the four boys and their families, all of whom are increasingly frustrated with the filmmakers and say if they had it to do all over again, they would not have been in the film.
