UC Demil Coalition Convergence in Santa Cruz, November 17-18

The Coalition to Demilitarize the UC will be gathering in Santa Cruz on Saturday and Sunday, November 17-18, for their Fall '07 convergence. Activists from several UC campuses use these quarterly convergences to meet, discuss plans and strategies, build community and support with one another, and have a good time.

The Coalition of Demilitarize the UC is based on the idea that the most effective and transformative means for UC students to oppose war and imperialism is to challenge our own university’s material contributions to the war effort. These include (but are not limited to) management of the Los Alamos and Livermore nuclear weapons labs and well over $100 million in annual military research at campuses across the UC system.

Workshops featuring basic background information regarding the Coalition to Demilitarize the UC’s work and the issues it addresses will take place at the beginning of the convergence, to ensure all participants feel fully informed and empowered in all conversations. Again, the discussions will be very action-oriented: We will decide on many of our next major projects.

Free homestays are available. Free food will be provided throughout the weekend. Please RSVP via email by November 12th to ensure your spot!

THANK YOU UC students! I am a UCSC grad of 1984 and applaud your activism. I participated in the sucessful divestiture movement at UCSC during the 80's to boycott South Africa. One of the strongest aspects was the cross solidarity with actions on other UC campuses.
Also, in terms of Lawrence Livermore Lab I hope that all the students there are familiar with and can suport the actions of Tri-Valley CAREs http://www.trivalleycares.com They do great work and have a series of events.
The more we share the more we have and the greater and happier we all are.
thanks again
PS always nice to hear that massage circles are still on the agenda
