Communities Organizing Support for Blue Diamond Workers (COS-BDW) is sponsoring a forum to help the workers get a fair and free union election. Blue Diamond Growers' Sacramento plant is the largest almond processing facility in the world. The workers there have been trying for three years to join the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. The company responded with a heavy anti-union campaign. Now 18 community organizations have come together in COS "because sometimes it takes a community to get justice on the job." At Sunday's event, workers will testify to a community panel that includes Rev. Dave Thompson from Westminster Presbyterian Church, Chris Jones from ACORN and State Sen. Darryl Steinberg. The panel will deliberate and return with recommendations for community action.
