Hear four two-minute public comments related to Low Power FM Radio (LPFM); Jeff Abrams, LPFM applicant from Boise, ID, the biggest market without community radio; Lee Robertes of Free Radio Moscow (Idaho); Sue Wilson, a long time media professional working on a film titled "Broadcast Blues"; and Sue McCabe, past president of the internet radio station Voice of Vashon, serving a Puget Sound island unserved by LPFM. Each makes the case that LPFM is being purposely shut out by the current media oligolpoly and further marginalized by this deregulation process. The current problems include rampant licensing of "repeater stations", in which an existing station gets a license in a new market, while we continue to be told there are no dial spaces available for LPFM licenses. Kirsten speaks about lack of radio response to public safety emergencies. She highlights a toxic train wreck several years ago in Minot, ND. Authorities were unable to get any assistance on 6 out of nine local radio stations, because the 6 were owned by Clear Channel Communications and "voice-tracked" without a live DJ. Clear Channel subsequently refused to accept responsibility to provide this emergency service.
