The Santa Clara Valley Peak Oil Awareness Group is hosting Alice Friedmann who will give us her Peak Soil talk on this coming Thursday, Nov. 1st, 7:30 - 9:00pm. The talk will be held at St. Lawrence Academy High School, 2000 Lawrence Court in Santa Clara (near the corner of Lawrence Expressway and Cabrillo Ave.
Alice will talk about why making biofuels from plants is the most
ecologically destructive possible alternative energy, especially to
topsoil and water. She will talk about soil ecology, why soil scientists
have been absent from the debate, cellulosic barriers, algae,
tall-grass prairie, and solutions.
Alice has been part of the peak oil community since the first online
discussions began on energyresources and runningonempty, attended many ASPO conferences, and was at the first postcarbon meeting in Oakland. She has been interviewed by Salon magazine, spoken at U. C. Berkeley on biofuels, published at energybulletin, energypulse, theoildrum and other sites too numerous to mention. She has a B.S. in biology with a
chemistry/physics minor from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and is a member of the Northern California Science Writers Association. Her website can be found at http://www.energyskeptic.com.
