Experts in N.Y. Driver's License Hearings Tied to Hate Groups

Monday, October 22, 2007 : NEW YORK -- The four primary experts at hearings that opposed giving driver's licenses to the undocumented are linked to the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a group tied to white supremacist organizations according to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), reports El Diario-La Prensa.
Republicans in the New York State Legislature called the hearings. SPLC spokesperson Mark Potok denounced the experts for their links to FAIR, which a recent SPLC report tied to white supremacist groups. "These witnesses opposing Governor Spitzer's (driver's license) plan present themselves as 'experts' in security," said Potok, "(but) actually represent a small group of ideologues connected to extremists with close links to hate groups." The SPLC report cited more than $1 million in funding received by FAIR from the Pioneer Fund, an organization supporting eugenics and other racist programs. Read More
