Protest for peace and freedom in Burma
Rally and Meditation at the Indian Consulate, 540 Arguello Blvd, San Francisco, 2 pm – 5 pm
(2-3 Silent Protest/Meditation; 3-5 Rally)
Hundreds of thousands of peaceful people led by Buddhist Monks cry out for an end to a longstanding military dictatorship. Holding Sassana flags and reciting prayers of love on the street is a crime in Burma punishable by beating and death. Monasteries were raided, residences vandalized, over 2000 arrested, many monks disrobed, humiliated, tortured, killed. The people of Burma have been silenced through military control, but they have not stopped protesting. People are still being killed for taking to the streets. Here where we can protest safely, we urge India, the world's largest democratic supporter of the Burmese brutal dictatorial regime, to step in and help resolve the situation peacefully. The Indian minister was busy signing sweet business deals with the military regime in Rangoon while monks, nuns and people took to the streets.
