Bayview Hunters Point residents and supporters present SFUSD Resolution to Mayor Newsom

by Francisco Da Costa
Bayview Hunters Point residents joined forces with Citywide supporters to present Mayor Gavin Newsom, the Board of Education Resolution linked to Lennar and Parcel A. It is not as if Mayor Gavin Newsom did not read the Resolution - but to re-enforce the unanimous vote of the Board of Education - to help our children and address the adverse impacts - imposed on our children by Lennar BVHP LLC. A Press Conference was held on October 9, 2007 at 12 noon, on the steps of City Hall in San Francisco.
San Franciscans as a whole have always done the right thing when it comes to the general welfare of the population of San Francisco. Much more when it comes to the welfare of our children.

There is a lot happening in the Bayview Hunters Point and it all began when San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (SFRA) decided to take over huge areas in the Bayview Hunters Point - declare them Survey Areas then Project Areas - and finally do the community in.

33,200 signatures were collected to stop SFRA in the tracks. The SF Department of Election issued a certificate that stated that the signatures were one hundred ten percent - correct.

Then, came a blow initiated by Aaron Peskin, Sophie Maxwell, and Dennis Herrera - voiding our signatures because it did not accompany the documents - some 4000 pages that made reference to all the issues related to SFRA and the ballot.

Parcel A on Hunters Point and the on going Project is a result of San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (SFRA).

As a result of Parcel A thousands of our children have been adversely impacted by the toxic pollution - initiated by Lennar BVHP LLC.

We took the matter to the Board of Supervisors - and the vote was six in favor of Lennar BVHP LLC continuing with the dubious Project on Parcel A.

Five Board of Supervisors voted for the community Tom Ammiano, Ross Mirkarimi, Chris Daly,
Ed Jew, and Gerardo Sandoval.

It was great to get an unanimous vote from the Board of Education to stop the project on Parcel A and test the children.

The Board of Education - Mark Sanchez, Norman Yee, Jane Kim, Eric Mar, Kim-Shree Maufas, Hydra B. Mendoza, and Jill Wynns- voted in favor of a Resolution - to stop the work at Parcel A and to test our children.

Today, we all met on the steps of City Hall to make a Public Statement - for our Racist Mayor Gavin Newsom to read the Resolution and do the right thing by the people.

As the members of the Public went to Room 200 which is the Mayor's Office - the Mayor chose to shut the door and make a statement to the world - that he is a coward and a Racist.

In all the time I have been to City Hall - not once was the Mayor's Office - Room 200 shut to the public.

Who does the Mayor think he is? We the people elect the Mayor and it is not for the Mayor to shut the door to his office that belongs to the Public.

The coward has a couple of body guards and also involved the Sheriffs Department to lock the door.

After some time - the Mayor's Office sent a representative who was handed the Resolution acted upon earlier by the Board of Education.

Let the world know that Mayor Gavin Newsom has harmed our children, abused the Precautionary Principle - and he is doing everything possible to divide the community.

We want to put the Mayor on notice - you just cannot come to the Bayview Hunters Point and be treated well - we will shut our doors on you. You, shutting the door on the people - was a despicable act.

A sizable crowd gathered on the steps of City Hall and you can witness the Press Conference by reviewing the photographs:
