General John Abizaid, Former Commander of the United States Central Command
General Abizaid joins the Council as the final speaker in the 2007 Richard and Judith Guggenhime Series.
As a top military leader who simultaneously managed international coalitions that operated in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa, and the Persian Gulf, General Abizaid has a unique insider’s view of the Middle East. He will discuss a new understanding of force and diplomacy in the Middle East and what its ramifications are for the future of U.S. military relations abroad—looking at the need for a new kind of leadership which combines diplomatic, economic, and political leadership with that of a more traditional military leadership.
