RICHARD AND JUDITH GUGGENHIME SERIES

General John Abizaid, Former Commander of the United States Central Command

General Abizaid joins the Council as the final speaker in the 2007 Richard and Judith Guggenhime Series.

As a top military leader who simultaneously managed international coalitions that operated in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa, and the Persian Gulf, General Abizaid has a unique insider’s view of the Middle East. He will discuss a new understanding of force and diplomacy in the Middle East and what its ramifications are for the future of U.S. military relations abroad—looking at the need for a new kind of leadership which combines diplomatic, economic, and political leadership with that of a more traditional military leadership.
