The Farmers' Market by the United Nations Plaza
We in San Francisco are fortunate to have so many Farmers' Market that bring one of a kind produce to our door. I often visit the Farmers' Market by the Ferry Building in San Francisco and the one at the United Nations Plaza by SF City - and when I get the time the one on Alemany Blvd. I did visit the fake Farmers' Market on 3rd Street that has been a disgrace - five or six stalls selling some produce but doing a disservice to the community.
Farmers' Markets are doing San Franciscans a great service bring one of kind produce to the door of those that love to cook and have fresh produce at that.
The bigger Farmers' Markets attract one of kind producers and vendors that offer one a kind vegetables and fruit and it is this aspect that I love to check out.
Some of us take the Farmers' Markets for granted but I think it is vital that we share our interests here - from time to time.
Healthy eating is good and fresh produce makes cooking a pleasure. But, one must know to cook.
Often time you find out there are folks that cannot fry an egg - so forget asking them to cook anything. But, you can always learn and some can learn faster - if they have it in them.
The Fast Food business has taken over the appetite of many - and we must learn to change our habits and eat what is better for our human bodies.
One way to change the way we look at food - is to visit the Farmers' Market and check out things for yourself.
Talk to the farmers and the vendors and ask them questions.
At the local Farmers' Markets in San Francisco you get fresh flowers too, and fresh fish, and fresh this, that, and everything. The setting at the U.N. Plaza in San Francisco is nice. It was here by the way - that the United Nations was founded - before, it moved to New York.
We must take our children to the Farmers' Market and show them the freshness of the produce - compared to what is found at the Supermarkets and those stores that sell stale vegetables and fruits and get away with murder.
And there are dry fruits - walnuts, dates, raisins, and a variety of dried fruit that is good for you.
