More gimmicks with Public Housing and using dubious decoys as ploys to harm residents
Greg Fortner is gone because he really had no choice but to seek fresher pastures after dealing with too many headaches with the City and County of San Francisco. The San Francisco Housing Authority (SFHA) is a mess and one has just to attend any SFHA Commission Meeting. Then you have Mayor Gavin Newsom and Sophie Maxwell trying to fix the system - Public Housing. Mayor Gavin Newsom has no leadership qualities and Sophie Maxwell is the most inept, ignorant, and arrogant person. She is in bed with Lennar BVHP LLC. In the interim - poor people suffer.
The Mayor Office of Housing with Mayor Gavin Newsom as the instigator tried yesterday as usual to hood wink the public. It will never ever work.
Public housing is Mess in San Francisco - because the SF Housing Authority has NOT got the right support from the SF City and County of San Francisco - over the many years.
The Public Housing at Hunters View, Potrero Annex and Terrace, Sunnydale, Hunters Point, Alice Griffith, West Courts, and Westbrook Apartments are all in need of dire maintenance and total rehabilitation.
Also Public Housing elsewhere in the City and County of San Francisco.
We are talking about 2490 units and about eighty percent of these units need immediate attention.
We can expand the present Public Housing by another 3500 units, all over San Francisco - through creative thinking and financing. Time will tell.
We must serve the poor and families that are leaving San Francisco in droves.
Mayor Gavin Newsom and Sophie Maxwell created a Task Force the same suspects and folks that will talk the talk but cannot and will not walk the walk. It is no use to name them - because then we get into a pissing game that Mayor Gavin Newsom - draws too many, to make him look good.
One has just to review the names all mentioned in the Summary of Task Force Recommendations to the Mayor and Board of Supervisors. A pathetic report.
First and foremos - NOT a single comment about the SF Housing Commission in this lousy report.
I understand the SF Housing Commission will be decommissioned or already has. With people like Amos Brown on it - no good can happen.
Also the SF Housing Commission has a poor track record holding its meetings and more meeting the needs of the people in Public Housing.
When the Navy built the homes in the Southeast Sector - the housing units were never built to last for ever. Now, after over 60 years the time has come to tear down the PUBLIC HOUSING buildings. There are too many problems with these units.
It may come as a shock that animals in the shelter have better amenities then many of the homes in Public Housing.
It is a shame when raw sewage runs all over homes and human beings have to live in these poorly maintained Public Housing dwellings. All this in San Francisco.
When Bill Clinton was President we had enough money to deal with this situation. But, the City and County of San Francisco chose NOT to deal with poor folks on purpose and even today does not really have poor folks in mind.
Mayor Gavin Newsom has Big Developers in mind. Moratoriums keep out small and medium size builders and contractors - out of the construction field in San Francisco.
This City will spend thousands to bring the 49ers to San Francisco and lobby the rick folks and others to collect millions to build a stadium - so that 10 measly football games can be played in San Francisco. With over sixty percent of the fans coming from outside San Francisco.
The land on which the stadium is to be built is near and by Public Housing. Imagine poor people watching Rich Folks - enjoying themselves while they are suffering- daily.
Yet, when it come to over 2500 Public Housing Units some $5 million is going to be released to do a band-aid job. When it reality we need $500 million to deal with the issue to make long lasting, holistic changes for the entire City and San Franciscans.
Right now, there are very serious issues with most of the Public Housing units. Fungi, mold, electrical, plumbing, ADA, you came it - these units are pathetic. I have personally inspected many of these units.
In some areas - over sixty percent of the units in Public Housing are boarded up.
Unwanted persons break into these units - use them for all illegal purposed and even to keep their pit-bulls and other such animals in these boarded Public Housing. Mayor Gavin Newsom knows about this but is doing nothing about it.
Over $1 million from the Public Housing budget goes to fund SF Police Department for Security and other pertinent issues. Go figure.
There is money from State Bonds that this City and County of San Francisco could have used a long time ago.
The John Stewart company following the lead of Apartment Investment and Management Company (AIMCO) is taping into these bonds for the Bayview Apartments.
Why do we have Property Management companies on the side line waiting to get money to fix and rent these units? Is there money to be made?
Is there any exploitation going on?
The City and County of San Francisco and especially Sophie Maxwell does not have the interests of poor folks and people of color in mind.
Sophie Maxwell, does buy into the plan of de-population to get rid of poor people - so that this premium land can come under the control of Big Developers and the few Property Management firms that are totally controlled by some filthy rich Whites.
The City and County of San Francisco can start some where and the best place to start is Potrero Annex and Potrero Terrace - there are 628 units that can be torn down and new ones built. Expanding the present units to about 1200 easily.
The richer better living condition next to Public Housing can lend a helping hand and make it a win -win situation. What say you Joe Boss?
The people that live in Public Housing in the Potrero Annex and Potrero Terrace can live in the homes as and when they are built with decent amenities and treated like decent human beings.
A similar model can be used at Alice Griffith with the present 256 units expanded to 750 units.
We could start at Sunnydale too - but we must start some where and have a model like the units at North Beach - where with $23.1 million in HopeVI funds and another $83.1 million from private and public investments - decent housing improved Quality of Life in the entire area.
Where once there was Blight there is now Sunshine. At that time Willie L. Brown Jr. was the Mayor. He help create and build the present AT&T Ball Park, the Ferry Building with innovative financing.
It is useless to bring certain folks to tout the present SF City and County polices. I saw that happening yesterday in Room 250 at City Hall before the Budget and Finance Committee.
We did get rid of Greg Fortner - now is the time to get rid of Sophie Maxwell and shun the policies of Mayor Gavin Newsom.
The present Economic Situation demands creative financing - one has just to open our eyes and see what is happening to hundreds of homes around us in San Francisco and thousands all over this Nation.
The Housing Situation Nation wide is chronic and getting worse. We waited too long - but still in San Francisco that built afer the 1906 Earthquake and after the 1989 Earthquake - and survived after 9/11 and is really doing well today - we can overcome.
The seed we plant must be a good seed and not a corrupt seed. This means the leadership must have a "moral compass". Do we have one in Mayor Gavin Newsom?
The City and County of San Francisco has always been compassionate - and Saint Francis Assisi is our Patron Saint.
It is a crime to keep poor human beings down and allow them to live in conditions not fit for animals to live in. This is a crime crying to heaven.
We have the Precautionary Principle and this must be applied to our Public Housing Situation.
We cannot expect anything good from Sophie Maxwell and not much from Gavin Newsom who is in bed in Lennar BVHP LLC and other dubious Big Developers - that are no good.
