Lyrical Revolt in San Francisco
An Evening of Music/Hip Hop and Spoken Word From Los Angeles to the Central Coast and up through the Bay
On Saturday September 22 over 150 people came together from across California to participate in Lyrical Revolt, an event put on by the Youth & Student A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) at Counter Pulse in San Francisco. The night was filled with politically conscience Hip Hop, spoken word and speeches from such organizations as the Brown Berets of Watsonville and Youth Alive.
This was the first time Lyrical Revolt has happened here on the West Coast but it has become well established in Harlem. Lyrical Revolt brings together art and politics, young and old, and people from diverse backgrounds. The intention of this project is to inspire people to actively get involved in the struggle to change injustice from the grassroots up. Saturday’s event marked a strengthening of ties and a deepened sense of solidarity with the many struggles in the fight against racism and oppression. The energy was thick with discussion about the upcoming anti war march in San Francisco on Oct 27th, many left pledging to organize for it.
