When: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2007 – 7:00 -8:30 pm
Where: St. MARK’S Church-Gym, 159 HARBOUR WAY, RICHMOND, CA
Armed with their faith CCISCO (Contra Costa Interfaith Supporting Community Organization) leaders at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Richmond, Casa de Esperanza, San Pablo Church, Coalición Marcha de los Niños, Comité en Contra del ICE, Centro Latino Cuzcatlán and The Latina Center will get together to host the first of several immigration events in the area on Thursday, September 27, 2007. The goals of this events are: to inform people of their Constitutional rights when they encounter Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials as they conduct enforcement sweeps in the City, encourage them to prepare contingency plans in case someone they know is detained by ICE officials and to take action by organizing in their communities.
Groups of children will participate in an art project for a children’s march while their parents learn from an attorney and immigration leaders how to be proactive and not only protect themselves, but be engaged in an organizing effort that will allow the immigrant community to become stronger and healthier.
Past and recent experiences with immigration raids will be shared and recorded as part of an effort to build historical documentation that highlights practices of abuse and constitutional rights violations during the immigration raids. A community alert network will be established by attendants. Updates on the “No-Match Letters”, DREAM Act, Renewal of Permanent Residency will be provided by immigration lawyers.
