The Clowns, which Fellini made for Italian television, is an affectionate memoir, a lyrical documentary in which Fellini himself, often on-screen as movie ringmaster eulogizes his lost fantasy world. He evokes the circuses he saw as a boy, especially the clowns who terrified him, spends some time in Paris interviewing surviving clowns, and finally stages an elaborate, mock, clown funeral that ends, as all Fellini films end, in a kind of reconciliation with fate. (1971, 92 min)

This is part of Station 40's weekly free movie screenings, every Thursday at 9:00.
