Two toxic stacks by the Old Mint on 5th and Market - thousands shop and now a Mint Plaza.
Millions have gone by the old Mint and now by it will be a Mint Plaza. Thousands shop every day by 5th and Market and millions of vehicle ply on this very heavy traffic route. The Mint Plaza will be ready this fall. But look very carefully and you will see stacks on the background - spewing toxic particulates day and night. So, we have a nice Mint Plaza and children and people gathering while all the time the area is polluted. Go figure.
Few people know there is a small power plant right in the vicinity of the Old Mint by Fifth and Mission but many also say Fifth and Market.
There used to be alley way where the bus would stop and many a student would take it to San Francisco State or in that vicinity.
The Jessie alley way was also used when driving on Mission to make a quick left a right and be on Fifth and Market and escape the journey of going all the way down Mission till you found a left turn.
Well, stop right across the Mint Plaza and you will see a smoke stack - spewing dangerous particulates day and night.
But, if you can go higher - you will see two.
This City and County of San Francisco has a Precautionary Principle.
We must not encourage any project where there is a possibility of harm. Now, here we know human beings will be harmed. So , will some one do something right and have a sound mitigation plan in place - before this Fall?
The harm more over is not only from the particulates spewed by the millions of vehicles but the two smoke stacks spewing dangerous particulates day and night. They belong to Pacific Gas and Electric.
Now why would anyone dream of building a Mint Plaza and harm thousands?
What was our Planning Department thinking? A Mint Plaza to bring people together to harm them and included innocent children? And this right in front to the best shopping center in San Francisco? The Westfield!
Check out the site and location for yourself and check out the photographs:
