SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in
Charge Javier F. Peña and San Mateo Police Chief Susan Manheimer announced
Wednesday the execution of several federal search warrants on three
marijuana distribution centers in San Mateo.
Documents relating to the investigations remain under court seal. All search
warrants were served without incident.
"DEA will continue to work with our counterparts in law enforcement to take
the illicit profits, proceeds and marijuana generated by these drug
trafficking organizations," said Peña.
The San Mateo warrants were the result of a nine-month-long investigation
conducted by the DEA San Francisco Office and the San Mateo County Narcotics
Task Force.
As a result of the search, agents seized 50 pounds of processed marijuana,
hash, marijuana-laced edibles, and approximately $30,000.
"The actions taken today in San Mateo are a part of an ongoing investigation
being conducted by DEA," San Mateo Police Chief Manheimer said. "It is
apparent that illegal operations within San Mateo will be shut down and the
property owners held accountable and liable."
Following Wednesday's operation, property owners where the San Mateo
marijuana distribution centers conducted business were notified about the
illegal activity occurring on their premises.
The notice told owners that further violations might result in criminal
prosecution, a DEA spokesman said.
Wednesday's operation was conducted by the DEA with assistance from San
Mateo County Narcotics Task Force and the San Mateo Police Department.

The San Mateo raids came with no advance
warning. Still, they were not all that
surprising given that San Mateo never officially
recognized dispensaries, and that local law
enforcement had long been noted for its hostility
towards illegal drug operations, whatever their
purpose.
