LESSONS OF THE NORTHWEST AIRLINES STRIKE
Presentations, Video & Discussion - With AMWA Local 33 President Ted Ludwig and Filmmakers Dawn Mikkelson and Melissa Koch
Thursday, August 30 at 7:00 PM
New College Cultural Center, 766 Valencia St, SF
In a long and bitter recent airline strike, thousands of mechanics who were members of AMFA (Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association) Local 33 struck against Northwest Airlines. The strike challenged outsourcing and changes in work conditions and benefits.
This forum will include a presentation by AMFA Local 33 president Ted Ludwig, who will talk about lessons of the strike and where the struggle is today, and a video on the strike produced by the Labor Video Project. In addition, filmmakers Dawn Mikkelson and Melissa Koch of Emergence Pictures, who are producing a full length documentary about the strike called The Red Tail, will screen part of their film. They will be returning from a trip to Asia, where they have been filming material on how outsourcing is affecting the airline workers in the United States and throughout the world.
$5.00 Donation Requested (no one turned away for lack of funds).
Sponsored by the Labor Video Project and New College Center for Education and Social Action.
For more information contact: Labor Video Project, P.O. Box 720027, San Francisco, CA 94172; lvpsf [at] labornet.org .
