County of Refuge Vigil for Elvira Arellano

Date:
Friday, August 31, 2007
Time:
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Event Type:
Vigil/Ritual
Organizer/Author:
Sakina Gerhard
Location Details:
West Avenue and Sebastopol Road, on the sidewalk at the front of the Dollar Tree Parking Lot. Santa Rosa, CA. In the Roseland area, near Dutton Avenue.

You are warmly invited to attend this weekly vigil for Elvira Arenallo. Regular attendance by individuals from the CIRSC (Committee for Immigrant Rights), Concerned Citizens for Change, the Santa Rosa October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Raza, Graton Day Laborers, The Peace and Justice Center, with Aztec Dancers on some nights, and Santa Rosa Copwatch. If you would like to support Elvira and others like her, and to stop the deportations, please come out! We are a friendly and diverse group. You may bring signs or use ours. Habla Espanol y English. We encourage passing out bilingual Know Your Rights cards to cars, and also to get people to stop the Sheriff's Collaboration with I.C.E. toward making Sonoma County a County of Refuge, as San Francisco, Richmond, and Oakland, through distributing a petition (in both English and Spanish).

If you can't attend and simply want to sign that petition, email a request to: countyofrefuge [at] comcast.net.

We hope to see you there! Also, it's kid friendly!

Please spread the word of the vigil to others to let the County know we will not permit immigrant populations in Sonoma County to be treatead as Elvira Arellano was treated! La Migra is not acceptable in wine country. This is not even an issue of immigrant rights. It is simply an issue of human rights and human dignities for all.
