Film at library to focus on shark population

The Belvedere-Tiburon Library's film series will showcase sharks Friday in the short film "Stewards of the Reef" at 1501 Tiburon Blvd.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the shark and other films will be screened at 7 p.m. in the Library's Founders Room.

The film examines escalating threats to shark population including habitat destruction of reef ecosystems and over-fishing that are causing Pacific reef shark populations to plummet.

The film includes interviews with leading marine biologists and conservationists who explain the forces behind a sharp reduction in many shark populations.
