How to increase attendance at Friday SF mayoral candidates' debates

by voter (savefreedom [at] yahoogroups.com)
[ practical suggestions for the Candidates' Collaborative]
Open letter to 12 of the 14 candidates for SF Mayor
(as Candidates' Collaborative):

So far, so good. August 17 debate went okay, thanks
to the media and to each of you, and the emshee. But
the actual audience was small, after one subtracts the
media persons and the candidates. Please bring more
supporters with you next time, and please publicize
the weekly events. You don't want the event to get
gradually smaller, week by week, until it fades away.

So how can you increase attendance?
Here are a few ideas:

(A) Provide live music, by unpaid volunteers,
before and after the candidates speak?

(B) Invite one well-known guest speaker
to each Friday forum?

Like, invite each current Supervisor
(except Ed Jew of Burlingame)
to talk briefly about
"What I would do
if I were Mayor."

Ten Supes, one per week, would add visibility
to most of the remaining Fridays.
You could also
invite District Attorney Kamala Harris to speak one
Friday, on any topic she chooses?
And/or our SF
members of the California Assembly and state Senate?

Urgently,
Tortuga Bi LIBERTY,
SF

Those of us who work for a living are not going to the Civic Center Plaza on Friday nights for anything. Please go to all the electoral forums around town where you can not only seek their endorsements but also meet the people at the various organizations around town. We expect that the pro-rent control candidates will go to the San Francisco Tenants Union for their crucial endorsement. It is also imperative that all pro-workingclass candidates use banning the Navy's Blue Death & Fleet Week in SF as an ad in opposition to "mayor" Newsom who wants to keep them in San Francisco. The majority of voters oppose the Navy's Blue Death illegal low flights over heavily populated San Francisco wasting tax dollars and oil and making terrible noise, all to glorify war. Just using it as an ad will hasten the day when they are gone as that will contradict the reason they are here, namely to recruit more cannon fodder. As to the terrible Democratic district attorney, Kamala Harris, there is no need to hear from this reactionary Democrat. She is running unopposed so there is no reason to hear from her at all. The district attorney's office is by definition "sending poor people to jail." She has not said one word in defense of the innocent San Francisco 8, currently sitting in the city jail with no bail, being prosecuted by the Democratic Party's state attorney general Jerry Brown as I understand it. We also do not need to hear from any Democratic Party Assemblypeople or State Senators, who are proud representatives of their rotten party, including but not limited to staunch supporters of the US military base that exists to protect US oil profits, namely Israel, thus making them warmongers by definition. As to the state issues, we have had a Democratic majority in the Assembly and State Senate for a long time and we still have no vacancy control, and this was true under Democratic Gov Gray Davis. If these Democrats cannot even do that much, they are not worth anything at all, and certainly not our time or our vote. For those who do not understand the reason for defending and extending rent control: It makes possible the existence of a workingclass and peace vote in San Francisco. All the condominium construction guarantees the destruction of that base for all pro-workingclass and pro-peace organizations. The pro-rent control candidates must call for extending rent control to all rental housing and for pressure put on the state legislature for vacancy control. There has to be a serious, loud fight on the housing and peace (ban the Navy's Blue Death) issues if there is to be a serious vote against election fraud, anti-rent control, pro-war Newsom's Democratic Party machine.

by Well, one idea anyway.
Shouldn't the naked guy be, you know, naked? No cheating with the apron there! in a shameless pander for the art-crowd vote.

Of course, one has to be careful that one attracts rather than repels voters-- just ask "Ballpark Frank" Jordan. We don't hear much from him these days, do we? (A blessing to count, that!)
