September 28 is Freedom from Hunger Day. Established in 2006, and declared an official day of awareness by the State of California, the day commemorates those around the world working tirelessly to end their own hunger. You can join hundreds of others making a difference in this struggle. And here’s how.
The intention behind Freedom from Hunger Day is twofold:
1) to raise awareness about the problem of global hunger and poverty; and
2) to provide caring, global citizens with concrete actions to create change.
Raising awareness doesn’t mean ticking off a list of haunting statistics. Instead, Freedom from Hunger Day activities help you to meaningfully engage in the lives of the people Freedom from Hunger serves.
On September 28, the home page of our website (http://www.freedomfromhunger.org) will be devoted to this day of awareness. You will have an opportunity to experience the lives of women who are pulling themselves out of poverty.
Watch video clips taken by staff in the field. Download sound bites of women sharing dreams for themselves and their families. Participate in a live conversation with Freedom from Hunger’s President, Chris Dunford, and ask questions about the solutions we are taking to end global hunger and poverty. Listen in as staff share on-the-ground experiences in real time in Africa or India.
And learn how you can help.
Because this year’s Freedom from Hunger Day activities will take place online, the outreach possibilities are endless. Whether you live in Idaho or Michigan, California or New York, you can join in.
People are pledging to invite friends and family to join them on September 28 for a viewing party as we premier our new, inspiring video online. You too can gather friends and learn together. Start a dialogue. Explore ideas. Even better: create an action plan.
Freedom from Hunger’s website will be filled with action steps for making a difference. Something simple: send a free e-card to raise awareness about ending hunger. A bigger step: invite Freedom from Hunger to give a video conference presentation in your community.
Learn more about the ways women are empowered to change their own lives. Step into their shoes and see their communities through their eyes. Plan ahead and save the date: September 28. Visit http://www.freedomfromhunger.org today for a schedule of online events. We will be waiting for you online.
