The Hayward city council has refused to approve a new location for
the Hayward Patient Resource Center, forcing it to close when the
permit at its current location expires shortly. If the HPRC closes,
Hayward will be without a medical cannabis dispensary for the first
time in nearly a decade. The HPRC's closure would be a blow to safe
access in the East Bay, where the Berkeley Patients Group is also
under attack and another Berkeley club is expected to close shortly.
Another Hayward club, the Local Patients' Group, was closed by a DEA
raid earlier this year. The HPRC was founded by Jane Weirick, who
passed away in 2005.
