Dear patients and supporters,
Today was a great day for the future of medical cannabis. The Neighborhood Services
Committee went beyond our wildest expectations and made the following amendments to
Alioto-Pier's amendments:
1. redefined medical cannabis dispensary to "publicly accessible" (thanks to Jake
McGoldrick)
2. reached a compromise that will keep accessible dispensaries open (thanks to
Michela Aliioto-Pier & Catherine Stefani)
3. removed the mandatory state ID requirement (thanks to Ross Mirkarimi)
Also, there was for the first time a conversation around expanding the "Green Zone",
or the area where dispensaries are allowed to exist. Both Supervisor McGoldrick and
Supervisor Alioto-Pier seemed to understand the predicament of dispensaries who need
to move, but have no place to move to.
We as a community should be very proud of ourselves for coming together for a common
goal. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen, from the patients who spoke
to Debra Walker and Suzan Mizner for ironing out the problems with the amendments.
The amendment itself was continued to the next Committee hearing, which will be in 2
weeks. We must not allow our community to lose momentum as we go into that hearing
and to future hearings of the Board of Supervisors on this much needed legislation.
We are winning the fight to protect safe access in San Francisco!
