Letter from Feinstein
Response letter from Dianne Feinstein in regards to a call for Dick Cheney's impeachment.
Thank you for your letter concerning impeachment proceedings against Vice President Richard Cheney. I appreciate the time you took to write and welcome the opportunity to respond.
In our most recent elections, the American people expressed clear disapproval with the path this country was on. They are tired of partisan politics and of an Administration that pays little heed to the wishes of the American people. They want-and deserve-a Congress that holds the Administration accountable and fulfills its Constitutional responsibility to check and balance the Executive branch. I share this sentiment and am determined to work hard and across party lines in the United States Senate to promote issues that are of real concern to most Americans, including the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan, homeland security, global warming, and lobbying and election reform.
At this time, however, I believe that impeachment proceedings against President Bush or Vice President Cheney will only divide the country even further, frustrating our hopes for a meaningful change in direction, while having little chance of success.
I have been deeply disappointed by many of this Administration's actions and have been outspoken in those instances. Nevertheless, given the challenges our country faces I believe that we need to focus on constructive and cooperative steps that would lead us in the right direction.
Again, thank you for your letter. If you have any further questions or comments, please contact my office in Washington, D.C. at (202) 224-3841. Best regards.
Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

In the past month DiFi has made big moves to the right on immigration, saying the Chronicle, "People understand that we have amnesty now," in the face of Operation Return to Sender, which has terrorized thousands of people, including children like Kevin Reyes, 7 years old, who was pulled from his home in San Rafael at 5 AM this past March, handcuffed, arrested without his parents present or knowing what was happening, and later released when ICE discovered that Kevin, like a certain number of the victims, is actually an American citizen. Most recently, DiFi has become the lone Democrat to join the far right in calling on Bush to commute the sentences of two border patrol agents found guilty of shooting an unarmed man in the back along the border. She feels the sentences were too harsh for these two shooters, but evidently the treatment of Kevin is akin to "amnesty." Her comments may encourage hate crimes, though I pray not.
Feinstein has written this form letter to everyone. Not sure when or if the country has ever been "united" but one must hope she is not nostalgic for irrational post 9/11 "unity." In her world we would unite behind lies, deceit, and death rather than face the truth.
"peaceone" is dishonest - "Most recently, DiFi has become the lone Democrat to join the far right in calling on Bush to commute the sentences of two border patrol agents found guilty of shooting an unarmed man in the back along the border. If you are a collective idiot, you will take this quote at face value. If not - you will realize the world isn't so simplistic. Indymedia is a disgrace to the progressive movement - making us look stupid.
The two border patrol agents were in a scuffle with a drug dealer - the dealer ran for the border and the two guards shot him in the butt (not back) because they thought he was going to take out a weapon. You can argue about the penalty for shooting (Feinstein thought it was too harsh) - but don't be a damn dishonest idiot - taking advantage of collective idiots who read indymedia like it's Gospel from God.
