Presidents Daniel Ortega and Hugo Chavez have lashed out at the US-sponsored Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) on Friday, calling it a "fairy tale."
Ortega said that thousands of dollars have been wasted on travels and studies, without any works being completed and even a single mile being constructed. He called on the US to change its economic policy and establish fair relations with the people of the world.
Chavez also stated that rather than helping Latin America, the MCA "has injected billions of dollars into 100 years worth of bombs, machine guns, Marines, invasions and interventions."
Both heads of state attended the 28th anniversary celebrations of the Sandinista Revolution in Managua and will lay the cornerstone of a refinery on Nicaragua's Pacific Coast on Friday.
The plant, with the daily refining capacity of up to 150,000 barrels, is part of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA), an integration project that also involves Cuba and Bolivia.
